Water Filter's And Water Filtration Systems For Your Home
Consumption of clean water is desirable by everyone. Our water supplies available do not always contain clean water. It is required that we employ some kind of water filtration equipment to filter the water. There are various types of water filters available these days. The most prevalent are the carbon water filters. Carbon water filters are available in various ranges. They are available from 50 microns to .5 microns of effectiveness. The lower the micron count; the greater the filtration effect in removing the organic substances. The carbon water filter normally contains about 12 to 24 ounces of charcoal. Among the carbon water filters the coconut shell based carbon water filters are considered to be the best. Charcoal has the ability to remove the impurities from water as it absorbs the volatile chemicals. One other advantage is they also improve the taste of water. The volatile organic chemicals that are present in water are substances such as chlorine, herbicides, pesticides, radon solvents, trihalomethane, benzene etc. The average carbon water filters are however not capable of removing the metallic impurities like iron. Carbon water filters of higher effectiveness with .5 microns do remove manganese, iron sulphate and hydrogen sulphate impurities. Also the carbon water filters are not able to remove the impurities such as arsenic, copper, nickel, nitrates, fluoride and mercury. Many carbon filters are generally jug type and are made up of activated carbon that is granular in nature. The granular carbon in ht filter is more or less like carbon granules in a tea bag. In order to filter the water, the water flows through the filter. It is also important that the water filter contains zeolites that are capable of removing excessive calcium and magnesium from the water. This is required in order to reduce the hardness of water in addition to filtering it. Carbon water filters that are in the form of block are considered to be better. In these types of filters the carbon is first powdered and then again made into a block. These kinds of water filters are much more efficient than the granular water filters as the particles are quite small. Some water filters are also embedded with other materials in order to remove the impurities of metals. There are other types of water filters that are made up of ceramics, resins and carbon blocks. Some of these water filters have certain amount of silver along with the carbon so that the growth of algae and bacteria can be prevented. The reverse osmosis water filters also considered to be quite effective. In the process of reverse osmosis water is forced through a thin membrane with pressure. This process removes the impurities dissolved in water and we get pure water. In addition to the RO filter or reverse osmosis filter it is desirable that a carbon filter is added prior to it. Otherwise too much organic material will pass through RO membrane and contaminate the filter to a great extent. The RO filters have the capability to remove calcium and magnesium salts responsible for the hardness of water. This is a key advantage over most of the other filters on the market. |
