Selecting And Maintaining Your Water Cooler

Water Coolers

Water is one of the main essentials required to live and remain healthy. It is necessary that we drink the appropriate amounts of clean water every day. To do so, it is necessary that the water available for consumption is cold and refreshing. Water coolers are devices that dispense water after cooling it. There are generally two kinds of water coolers. The first kind is bottled water coolers; the second are bottle less water coolers. The bottled water coolers require the delivery of water contained in large plastic or glass bottles from the vendors, whereas the bottle less water coolers are ones that can be connected directly to the water supply.

The most commonly used water coolers are the ones that can be mounted on a wall and connected directly to the water supply. These water coolers run a sort of refrigeration unit that continuously cools the incoming water. The most common wall mounted water coolers are called water fountains or drinking fountains. The drinking fountain or the wall-mounted water cooler have a small container that stores the cold water so that you don't have to wait for the water to get chilled. There is a spring-loaded valve normally placed on the top of the unit. These types of water coolers deliver chilled water in the form of streams that arches up for easy consumption. These types of water coolers generally do not have any kind of filtration or water treatment unit attached to it. The water is directly taken from the supply of tap water. The estimated life of these types of water coolers are about seven to ten years.

Apart from the above type of water coolers there are gravity fed water coolers. Also there are newer designs of freestanding water coolers. The treated water bottles are made to stand down into the dispensing machine. These types of water coolers are actually bottled ones and are used for industrial and large-scale use.

Today, water coolers are regarded as one of the essential commodities in a house. On an average the amount of water required by a person in a day is about eight glasses. According to a survey only fifty percent of the population actually drinks the appropriate amount of water. Availability of water coolers in a house provides chilled water to family members, which compels them to drink more water. If the water available is not cold and refreshing, one consumes water when it is absolutely necessary. It is often found that having chilled water makes family members less prone to desiring unhealthy chilled soft drinks.

But it should be kept in mind that the water coolers installed should be cleaned at regular intervals. This is very important to keep the water coolers from collecting harmful bacteria. It is recommended that the water cooler should be cleaned at every water bottle change or a period of six weeks. The water cooler should be treated with a disinfectant solution during the cleaning process and then thoroughly cleaned to avoid any trace of the solution within the cooler. One other alternative is to purchase a water cooler and dispenser with your refrigerator. These are much lower maintenance and are much more convenient.
