Good Tips On Selecting Bottled Water While Traveling Abroad

Selecting Bottled Water

Whenever we travel outside of our home, we need to have water for which the sources are unknown. This kind of water may not be suitable for drinking purposes. The best idea often times is to carry bottled water with you while you travel. Bottled water is safe and clean to drink. While traveling abroad this helps in avoiding water diseases and other gastrointestinal illnesses.

Most people fall ill during their trips due to consumption of unfit drinking water. Filtered water is not always an option while traveling, so often times travelers take chances and end it up getting sick. It is always better to use bottled water in these circumstances.

Not all bottled water is suitable. There are many types of bottled water available in the market especially while traveling overseas. Having complete knowledge is essential before buying and selecting safe bottled water. If you do not select the best bottled water, you may be defeating the purpose. If you are careful and understand the key differences, you can make an educated decision for selecting bottled water in your travels.

Packaged water is available in many forms. There are companies that package water immediately after distilling it. The distilled water is the purest form of water. The distilled water is fit for drinking but there are some disadvantages. Distilled bottled water is acidic and reduces calcium from your bones.

The other form of packaged bottled water available in the market is mineral water. Some companies manufacture the mineral water by simply adding minerals to the water. These minerals are essential for the proper functioning of the body and can prove to be valuable when traveling. While mineral water is good source of essential vitamins and minerals, you must make sure that the water is from a well know supplier. This is especially true when traveling in under developed countries. Ask the locals what bottled water they drink first. If the supplier is not known and is not approved by the food authority it should never be purchased. Consuming such packaged water can do more harm than good.

Filtered and Ultra Violet radiation treated water is the most common available packaged water in the market. The authenticity of the company should be established before purchasing such packaged drinking water. Take notice to the packaging prior to selecting your water of choice. If the label looks suspicious it probably is not safe. One other item to take note of is whether the bottle has been tampered with. Some travelers have found that they have purchased bottled water only to find used bottles were simply filled with tap water resulting in their illness.

The seal should be thoroughly checked. Never select bottled water that is not properly sealed or looks tampered with. Care should also be taken to properly dispose of the plastic bottles after use. With some basic common sense you can protect yourself from a very bad illness when selecting and drinking bottled water abroad.
