Distillation is a technique of water purification. The method of distillation removes the unwanted minerals and gases from water. The water produced from the process of distillation is hundred percent pure. In order to produce distilled water, the normal water is boiled and converted to steam. When the water boils and converts into steam, it leaves behind the minerals and the unwanted gases are given off. The steam is then collected and condensed back to water and stored. This is distilled water. The distilled water is a good option for drinking purposes apart from being used in various appliances, as it does not create scales as normal water.

Distillation is among the most basic methods of water treatment, and even today it is regarded as one of the most efficient ways of water purification. In olden times, the Greeks utilized the technique of distillation to convert sea water to water used for drinking purposes when on ships. In far-eastern societies, water was distilled for utilization in tea ceremonies called "Ranbiki". Even today, the technique of distillation is used on various ships to convert the sea water to water for drinking purposes. The distilled water is the purest form of water that is actually free from all kinds of impurities as well as gases.

It is a good option to drink distilled water if you live in an area where the ground water has an unpleasant smell or has the minerals that are not good for one's health. In such cases the distilled water is a good remedy. Also there are areas where the tap water tastes bitter due to its treatment with chlorine. There is another problem with tap water that it runs through old pipes and thus has chances of dissolved lead in it. The intake of lead is considered to be very dangerous for human health. Drinking distilled water solves all these problems. Distilled water is easily available in bottles or can be produced at home. There are potable equipments available in the market these days that can be easily purchased at kept at home.

Most of the people do not like drinking distilled water, as they do not like the taste of the distilled water. Actually there is no taste of distilled water. It tastes flat. This is due to the fact that all the minerals and gases are removed from distilled water. These minerals and gases provide the pleasing taste to the water. But as distilled water is tasteless, it is good for our body. When our body harbors toxins, we usually have a disagreeable taste in our mouths. The drinking of tasteless distilled water during and after our detoxification phase normally has a pleasing freshening result upon our senses and energy. Also the distilled water has the capability to flow easily into the tight spaces in our body. This is due to the fact that distilled water has low viscosity whereas the normal water has minerals and impurities that make it more viscous and thus decrease its flow ability.
